The Hamilton Harris Project was formed in 2003.
The band, an offshoot of the successful Swinging Johnson’s band, had been assembled by the co-leaders of the Johnsons – Tom “TBone” Hamilton and guitarist Dan Harris. They had added Michael Johnn Aloia on keyboard and B3, drummer standout Ken Loomer, and songstress Marilyn Freemon.
The HHP covered a lot of ground musically. The band could play straight-ahead instrumental jazz from the songbook of Monk, Coltrane, and Montgomery, then turned on a dime to play Texas blues, New Orleans funk, and set it off with vocals that swung, shuffled, and grooved.
