Gig Notes Ed #25 – TBone Hamilton Band at Ka’ Tiki
Saturday, December 9th, 2023 Gig Notes Ed # 25
TBone Hamilton Band at Ka’ Tiki
Tonight, man, it was an unbelievable night. The energy level was super high as our friend Ed Ludwig filled in for our regular saxophone player, Eric Mullins. He did a great job stepping in for Eric. Both gentlemen are excellent jazz musicians, so they can easily adapt to all sorts of material, which is why I have them in my band. It was crazy because it was a beach stroll tonight, and there were all these people dressed up in holiday gear, Christmas gear, lights, elves, Santa, you name it. It was happening, and the libations were flowing freely.
The bartenders were just going nuts because it was so packed, and the dance floor was full all night. It’s what you would call a classic dive bar gig for us tonight. There were at least four people ejected for inappropriate behavior, and I don’t know if any got arrested, but the cops were there two to three times.
Unfortunately, two girls fell into my mic stand, pushing it into me. It was the early part of the night, and it kind of wrenched my back, which was a little shocking. But once I got over it, which took a little bit of time, we settled in and played quite a variety of music.
I got to meet Gene tonight and his wife from Adelphi Records. A good friend, Roy Book Binder, sent them down and recommended that they come see us. I was touched by the gesture. I met some cool new people tonight who said they found me on the Internet, and they had never heard me play before, but they already bought tickets to my upcoming show with Mitch Woods at the Coliseum on New Year’s Eve. I was also grateful for the people who talked to me during the break. They really enjoyed the music, and the women were funny because they all had their Fitbit watches on, and they were doing steps to the music! The band was pretty fiery tonight. There was a lot of soloing and improvisation going on. The band really stepped up and carried me when I needed them too. They just knew.
So, this is the latest gig note, and I am looking forward to the upcoming gigs to close out 2023. It’s been a heck of a ride!
